From October 11 to 15, 2021, the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) was held in Kunming. With the theme of “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”, the COP15 conference aims to advocate and promote the construction of global ecological civilization, emphasizing that man and nature are a community of life, emphasizing respect for nature, conforming to nature and protecting nature. Efforts should be made to achieve the sustainable use and benefit sharing of biodiversity proposed by the Convention by 2050, and to realize the vision of "harmonious coexistence between humans and nature". The COP15 conference will be held in two phases from October 11 to 15 and the second half of 2022. This is the first global conference held by the United Nations with the theme of ecological civilization.

This COP15 conference has achieved carbon neutrality throughout the process

As the host city, Kunming has comprehensively carried out the top-level plan for carbon neutrality at the conference and runs the concept of sustainability throughout the whole process of conference preparation. Forests have multiple ecological functions, such as protecting biodiversity and absorbing carbon dioxide. About the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP15)

On October 12, President Xi Jinping attended the 15th COP Leaders Summit of the Convention on Biological Diversity by video and announced:

• China will take the lead in investing 1.5 billion CNY to establish the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries.

• China officially established the first batch of national parks such as Sanjiangyuan, Giant Panda, Siberian Tiger and Leopard, Hainan Tropical Rainforest, and Wuyi Mountain, with a protected area of 230,000 square kilometers, covering nearly 30% of the terrestrial national key protected wildlife species.

• In order to promote the achievement of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, China will successively release carbon peaking implementation plans and a series of supporting measures for key areas and industries, and build a carbon peaking and carbon neutral "1+N" policy system. China will continue to promote the adjustment of industrial structure and energy structure, vigorously develop renewable energy, and speed up the planning and construction of large-scale wind power photovoltaic base projects in desert, Gobi, and desert areas. The first phase of the project with an installed capacity of about 100 million kilowatts has been started in an orderly manner.

On October 13, the first phase of the high-level meeting of COP15 ended, and three important outcomes were achieved. First, it provided a political impetus for global biodiversity governance and boosted the global political determination to protect biodiversity. Second, through the formation of the "Kunming Declaration", the synergy of global biodiversity governance has been consolidated, and a political guarantee has been provided for the formulation and consultation of the "Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework". The third is to announce China's new measures for biodiversity conservation, making China's contribution to global biodiversity conservation and providing Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions.

On October 14, the UN Biodiversity Conference Ecological Civilization Forum opened. The theme of the conference is “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”. The forum invited more than 1,800 representatives from contracting parties, international organizations, financial institutions, research institutions, social organizations, commercial enterprises, media organizations and Chinese local governments.
