On December 16, 2021, the press conference of the Green Paper on Climate Change "Coping with Climate Change Report 2021: Carbon Neutrality Album" and the "Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality" summit forum were held at the China Meteorological Administration.
The Green Paper on Climate Change is the authoritative annual publication in the field of climate change in China. Since the launch of the "Report on Climate Change (2009): Leading to Copenhagen" in 2009, the Green Paper on Climate Change has been a unique combination of natural science and social science. It has witnessed the international climate process, closely followed the pulse of China's green and low-carbon development, reflected the frontier issues in the field of climate change research, and provided rich, timely, and forward-looking ideological results for the public to fully understand global climate change issues and policy actions to address climate change.
According to WANG Limin, President of Social Sciences Literature Publishing House, the 2021 Green Paper on Climate Change focuses on carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and presents a panoramic view of the challenges and opportunities, priorities and difficulties, development paths, key technologies, and policy actions that China faces in realizing the "dual carbon" goal. Through rigorous analysis, the Green Paper pointed out that the implementation of the "dual carbon" goal should focus on emission reduction, while the difficulty lies in energy transformation. In particular, it proposed to lead the green and low-carbon development of various industries such as industry, construction, and transportation with scientific and technological innovation, with a focus on enterprises.
Enterprises are the main source of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as innovators and implementers to reach peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. Faced with external policy pressures, carbon pricing mechanisms, and changes in the investment and financing environment, achieving carbon neutrality within themselves and the supply chain has become an inevitable choice for companies to build long-term competitive advantages.
SinoCarbon is responsible for compiling the chapter "Corporate Carbon Neutrality Response Strategies" in the Green Paper on Climate Change. On the basis of systematically summarizing and sorting out climate pledges, actions, and practical cases of characteristic domestic and foreign enterprises to cope with the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the chapter provides a useful reference for enterprises to achieve green and low-carbon development.
Under the “dual-carbon” goals, enterprises should pay attention to both the international and domestic changes, fully grasp the challenges and opportunities brought by the carbon-neutral era, formulate low-carbon development goals and coping strategies as soon as possible, and take into account their own characteristics, clarify emission reduction measures, carry out carbon-neutral actions, and stay on the path of sustainable development.
